It all starts at the base camp, where visitors climb 32 steps to the cliff, the first viewing platform at a height of 363 meters. Next comes the actual open-air climb with 161 steps on a 45-degree incline leading to the Apex, the second and final viewing platform at 388 meters. There you have the opportunity to walk around, lean out and hang over the platform to take some of the coolest photos you will ever take.
There's something very exciting about being able to see these views without anything getting in your way. There are no walls, gates or barriers obstructing the expansive cityscapes in all directions.
When you arrive at City Climb, staff will give a detailed safety briefing and then have you sign a form to confirm that you have understood everything that has been told to you. You will then be led to a changing room where you can store your belongings as no loose items are allowed, including cell phones and cameras. There you will meet the two guides who will accompany you on the climb; Group limits are limited to eight people, with two guides for each group.
Your guides will then put you in protective clothing and a harness and you will be checked twice to make sure everything is properly fitted and secure. You'll then head to base camp, where you'll be securely attached to the route with your harness and a trolley. After another series of safety checks, the first leader leads the way while the second takes up the rear.
The guides take care of all the photos and videos as one wears a helmet and a GoPro while the other carries a digital camera. So all you have to worry about is enjoying all the excitement and views.
If you're adventurous yet cautious, you should know that the guides are experts at ensuring peace and quiet. While nothing scares an adrenaline junkie easily, the first few steps of the open-air climb will be quite frightening, but the guides keep you entertained with historical facts and general chit-chat and the worries soon fade away, allowing you to complete the climb in can enjoy to the fullest. The guides also take breaks on the way up so that visitors can breathe and take photos of the steps.
