Conclusion

The hotel chain offers stylish rooms, some of which have great views. The prime location is a key advantage: It's just a few blocks north of Times Square, and within walking distance of theaters, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park. The rooms are modernly furnished in white and gray with some bright color accents and modern technologies. There are slightly cheaper equally-tiered hotels in the city, but guests pay more for the premium location.

Backdrop

Located 32 floors above Times Square and the Theater District, the French chain's Manhattan hotel offers its predominantly European guests reassuring familiarity.

A majority of the hotel's staff speaks English and French, which also reflects the majority of guests - well-dressed European couples, ladies from Paris, young families and flight attendants. Signs throughout the hotel are also in English and French, and some of the concierges speak with a strong accent.

The hotel lobby is on the sixth floor. Guests coming from the street take one of two elevators to reception. Inside, guests are greeted with dramatic futuristic style and a sophisticated lighting scheme reminiscent of the flashing lights of Times Square. The dimly lit reception area has blue and purple neon lights, while the massive lobby features curved, hanging lights that change all sorts of colors. Some of the "tables" are truly interactive screens that allow guests to play electronic table games, and there is also a corner dedicated to video games. The lobby's best feature, however, is the floor-to-ceiling windows along the east side, which offer stunning views of Broadway and Times Square.

The on-site restaurant and bar Supernova serves fine cuisine. In the warm months, there's a huge balcony that covers the entire side of the hotel where guests can take cocktails (the lobby bar even has a window that opens onto this area). The views of Times Square are hard to beat.

Position

Located at 52nd Street and Broadway, the Novotel offers visitors a direct view of Times Square in the Theater District.

While it bills itself as the Novotel New York Times Square, the hotel is actually 6 blocks from the heart of the famous square. Still, it's very close, and guests can clearly see the bright lights from the lobby and possibly their room.

The bright lights located closer to the hotel include the Broadway Theater. The August Wilson Theater is across the street, while the Winter Garden Theater and Gershwin Theater are just around the corner.

A steak restaurant and several piano bars share the hotel block on 52nd Street. There is a McDonald's on the Broadway side of the hotel, and the 24-hour Duane Reade Express pharmacy is on the ground floor of the building, as well as a luggage and electronics shop. In the immediate vicinity is also the newly opened branch of the famous diner with the world-famous cheesecake, Junior's. Despite the hectic nature of Times Square and the surrounding area, there is relative calm around the hotel's 52nd Street entrance. Just around the corner, Broadway bustles with pedestrian and car traffic all night long.
