New York City needs pizza just like a plant needs sunlight or the subway needs a train driver. In other words, it is essential to life and that's why the Big Apple has all sorts of varieties and varieties, nowhere else on the planet will you find more choice. I've been eating my way through pizza shops and pizzerias for years and have put together my top 10 for you.
1. Don Antonio
Address: Hell's Kitchen, 309 W 50th St, New York, NY 10019 - Cost $$ $$$
It's not far from Times Square, I discovered it on a summer evening. We had just rented our office and I was so excited that I didn't know where I was going. When I woke up I found myself in this shop and since then not a day goes by without me thinking about the delicious pizza and I still go there at least once a week to this day.
2. Artichoke Basille's Pizza
Address: Highline Park 114 10th Ave, New York, NY 10011 - Cost $$$$$
Probably the best $7 dollars you will invest in your life. Francis Garcia and Sal Basille brought their famous creamy artichoke pizza from Staten Island to Manhattan, and nothing was the same again! Especially famous after a night of drinking, you'll find the prettiest girls and the coolest guys in line there after a long night of clubbing .
3. Ribalta
Address: Greenwich Village 48 E 12th St, New York, NY 10003 - Cost $$$$$
In the charming neighborhood of Greenwich Village lies this great Napoli Pizzeria. Except for the price, which is a bit steep, everything is like in Italy, irresistible. If you show up there during a SSC Napoli football game, don't even think about going in, especially if you are a Juventus sympathizer .
4. Lions & Tigers & Squares Detroit Pizza
Address: Chelsea 268 W 23rd St, New York, NY 10011 - Cost $$ $$$
The plain square is soft and squishy. The marinara is as thick as mud. And the main aspect that defines it as Detroit style - that lacy picket fence of crispy cheese on the top edges makes you weak in the knees. My cholesterol levels go to the doctor after one pan of this pizza, but what can I say, I wouldn't even really be sorry if I died in this shop.
5. Joe's Pizza
Address: West Village 7 Carmine St, New York, NY 10014 - Cost $ $$$$
Spiderman was filmed here and was the only love that Leonardo di Caprio ever stayed true to. This pizza has cult status in New York but not just because the famous and rich come in drunk, it actually tastes great.
6. Prince Street Pizza
Address: SoHo 27 Prince St A, New York, NY 10012 - Cost $ $$$$
Here is the best Sicilian slice of pizza with thick crust, spicy tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy little "peperoni sausage cups" to collect oil and possibly the last ingredient is something magical. The problem is, there are often queues but the pizza is worth it.
7. Sottocasa Pizzeria
Address: Harlem 27 Prince St A, New York, NY 10012 - Cost $$ $$$
An Italian who lived in Wolfsburg for years and thought he could make it to bigger rum in the Big Apple. He succeeded, he is the most famous pizza maker in Harlem and I advise even a vegetarian to sin and try my absolute favorite pizza with Prosciutto di Parma.
8. Emmy Squared - Brooklyn
Address: Williamsburg 364 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY 11211 - Cost $$$ $$
You're an adult, which means responsibility and taxes and all that, but it also means you can eat whatever you want. If you want pancakes for dinner, no one will stop you. And if you want an insanely rich pizza with crust and melted cheese, the folks at Emmy Squared just ask you to add waffle fries with mayo on the side. The fluffy, cheesy Detroit-style pies have a fried and crispy crust and are topped with things like banana peppers and thick ranch dressing. Sure, you'll probably (definitely) be writhing with stomach aches without your mom to keep you from overeating, but that's a risk you always have to take for this pizza.
9. Rizzo's Fine Pizza
Address: Queens 30-13 Steinway St, Astoria, NY 11103 - Cost $$$$$
When I lived in Astoria I had the smallest room, kind of like half a closet and I never wanted to move out even after I could afford Manhattan, the biggest and probably only reason to stay in Queens was this pizza.
10. Basile's Pizza
Address: New Jersey 89 Washington St, Hoboken, NJ 07030 - Cost $ $$$$
I had decided to no longer withhold the Panorama Tour from people and I thought what harmonizes with emotions, lights of NYC and the best skyline views to make it an unforgettable experience. Then I sat down in this pizza shop to think and thought what a delicious piece of pizza...the glowing light bulb above my skull couldn't be missed. A slice of pizza in this shop has since been included in the Panorama Tour. click
