With the installation of its first steel column, " One Vanderbilt," soon to be New York City's second-tallest skyscraper, officially began construction. 26,000 tons of steel will be installed including the first 20-ton steel beam, according to the team the installation took place 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The first part of the building is scheduled to be completed in 2017, the last part, the east side, is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
Each of the construction workers signed the steel column before installation.
The 427-meter-tall building, which will be erected next to Grand Central, will also provide an observation deck for tourists.
